Mint Choc Chip Smoothie

Did you know that chocolate is a superfood? Yes, an excellent excuse to eat it in abundance... And yes you can if you eat the RIGHT kind. Cacao powder is the raw, unprocessed version of cocoa. Its full of antioxidants and will boost your energy and vitality. I explain it to my girlfriends as the drug of yogis hehe. I use cacao powder every day. In smoothies, homemade chocolates, or my night time iced or hot chocolates.

Cacao on its own is quite bitter, so I sweetened it with raw honey or stevia. You will also find the most epic chocolate recipe on my blog for KETO KRACK.

I have been making this smoothie for a long time using fresh mint. However, I recently invested in some spearmint oil and its taken the drink to a whole new level. I got mine from the health food store.

You will notice that in all, y smoothie recipes I include healthy fat, protein, fruit and fibre. I do this to help keep you full and satisfied and your blood sugars happy. If you want to add a scoop of chocolate or vanilla protein powder to their recipe also please do.

The chocolate whey protein by bare blends is delicious in this recipe.

Mint choc chip Smoothie:

  • 3/4 cup canned full fat coconut milk

  • 2 drops of spearmint oil OR 6-7 leaves of fresh mint ** see notes

  • 2 tbsp raw cacao

  • 1/2 tbs psyllium husk

  • 2 tbsp cacao nibs * dont blend

  • Pinch sea salt

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

  • 1/2 tbs of raw honey or liquid stevia to taste

  • 1 small frozen banana

  • 1 cup ice

Notes:

If you can't track down spearmint oil you can use a mint or spearmint extract purchased from the super market. Use 1-2 teaspoons of the mint/spearmint extract. Begin with 1 tsp and test to your liking.
